FUN FACT: If you happen to come into town the night prior to the wedding the Mid Hudson Bridge will be lit up in purple and yellow in honor of the Groom's favorite basketball team and player. The Groom is a loyal Lakers fan and Kobe Bryant has played an integral part in the Groom's life. If time permits take a ride across the bridge to admire the lights.
Unused for 35 years, a former railroad bridge was transformed into a pedestrian and cycling path now known as The Walkway Over the Hudson, which draws 600,000 visitors annually — the bulk of whom walk its 1.28 miles between Poughkeepsie and Highland in the spring, summer and fall. The walkway is the world’s longest elevated pedestrian bridge and rises 212 feet above the Hudson River.
Historically known as Hyde Park, Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site is one of the region's oldest Hudson River estates. For nearly two centuries, this place has been home to socially prominent New Yorkers. A superb example of its type, Hyde Park represents the domestic ideal of the elite class in the late nineteenth-century America. It provides a glimpse of estate life, the social stratification of the period, and the world of the American millionaire during the era historians refer to as the Gilded Age.
